Teacher

General Position Description
The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults, especially in stressful situations, in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns. S/he will demonstrate love, kindness, and patience in all interactions with children.

This position reports directly to the Director.

Key Responsibilities
• Coordinates and implements a high-quality, faith-informed educational program, while developing positive relationships with the children and their families
• Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching
• Plan, individual and group, age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences
• Ensure all center policies and state regulations are me.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children
• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards
• Maintain accurate records, forms and files
• Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
• Supervise activities to ensure the safety and well-being of each child
• Respond to emergencies physically, calmly, and efficiently
• Contribute to a pleasant, cooperative working environment
• Perform required documentation electronically/manually as directed, while maintaining confidentiality
• Follow all center policies and state regulations
• Attend schedule staff meetings and in-service workshops
• Create and annually update an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP)
• Complete 15 hours of approved professional development (trainings/courses) annually

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
• Must be at least 20 years of age
• Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
• High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment
• A strong understanding of child development
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Must clear background check and fingerprinting through the Child Development
• Must complete State of Vermont Orientation training online prior to being left alone with children
• Must complete Vermont Mandated Reporter training for child abuse and neglect
• Must obtain certification in pediatric First Aid and infant/child CPR within 6 months of date of hire
• Must complete Medication Administration training
• Must carry out all job responsibilities while acting as a Christian role model
• Able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the position

Educational Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED and
• One of the following qualifications:

  • At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3)
  • Certificate; or
  • At least an associate degree from an accredited college with a major or
  • concentration in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education, or Child and Family Services and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least a Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or
  • At least a Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger; or
  • At least successful completion of twenty-one (21) college credits with an early childhood or school age focus and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger

Physical Requirements
• Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting
• Must be able to move equipment and furniture for classroom activities and routine cleaning
• Must be able to lift 35lbs or more

Employment Classification
• Position is classified as Full-Time or Part-Time and Non-Exempt

Wage Range
• $14.00 to $24.00 per hour

Teacher Assistant

Woodstock Christian Child Care has an open position for a part-time Teacher Assistant. An ideal candidate would support the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education.  S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment, even in stressful situations. S/he will demonstrate love, kindness, and patience in all interactions with children.

Candidates for this position will:

  • have a High School Diploma or GED and one of the following qualifications (Ladder Level or CDA can be obtained after hire, and relevant college credits already completed may apply to meet these requirements):
    • a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level One (1) or Two (2) Certificate
    • a current CDA (Child Development Associate) and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • clear background check and fingerprinting through the Child Development Division
  • carry out all job responsibilities while acting as a Christian role model
  • be able to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual demands of the position

Part-time Cleaner Needed

Woodstock Christian Child Care has an open position for a part-time Cleaner two to five  evenings per week to clean the center. An ideal candidate would be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Woodstock Christian Child Care (WCCC) center in accordance with state regulations and best practices, as determined by the Director and teaching staff.

The Cleaner must:

  •      Carry out all job responsibilities while acting as a Christian role model
  • Be responsible, mature and health/safety conscious
  •      Be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Clear full background check, if performing responsibilities when students are present in the center
